If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is.

Please allow me to introduce myself, explain briefly my teaching philosophy, and how I  contribute to the growth and success of Madison High School.

In 1992, I graduated from Southern Utah University with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics. Currently, I am working on a Masters of Science in Statistics from Texas A&M University.  I am married and have four children.  My hobbies include cooking, crocheting, and Sudoku and Kakuro puzzles.

With over fifteen years of teaching experience, I have spent the last few years at Madison High School.  While here I have had the opportunity to work with many outstanding educators.  I have been the co-advisor for the sophomore class, attended the NCTM conference and helped to teach inservice classes.  Before coming to Madison, I taught a couple of years at Rigby High School.  While there I proposed and implemented a hands-on geometry class for students that have previously struggled with earning math credits. Also, I have attended the Governor’s Summit on Science Math and Technology, presented at ICTM State Conference, and attended Micron for Teachers workshops receiving a $500 grant.  Previously, I have taught in both Arizona and Utah, including rural and urban schools, mainstream and alternative schools and all levels of math.  My qualifications also include experiences in corporative teaching, working with “at risk” and special needs students, creating school curriculum, teaching with manipulatives and implementing programs to help meet the needs of students.

It is my philosophy that all students should be given an inviting, innovative, and challenging environment for learning; one where questions should not only be answered, but explored.  Most students have a desire for success, but several have experienced failure many times and believe they can not succeed especially in mathematics.  Therefore, I strive to build confidence as well as knowledge in all of my students.  It is my goal to combine my experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, intelligent teacher who will make a positive contribution to Madison High School.
